ONE – TO – ONE TALK WITH AUTHOR REVEALS RAYS OF GENDER EQUALITY FOR STUDENTS

Our principal Mrs. Madhubala Gairola, School Co-ordinator Mrs. Padmavati Banda, School Librarian Mrs Vishakha Sonakamble, teachers & students of Class VII – IX were present for the occasion.
Sub co-ordinator of the secondary section Mrs. Nirupama Kale introduced the guest speaker of the session; well known author Mrs. Swati Sengupta, who visited our School to have a one- to –one conversation with our students about her widely acknowledged book titled - Half of the Field Is Mine. The entire focus of the session was on the phenomenon of gender discrimination practised in various segments across the globe. Mrs. Sengupta mentioned that she took up Soccer or Football to highlight this undue disregard to the female fraternity on the grounds of assumptions that they are fragile & cannot withstand tough situations. She presented a video that gave live evidence about a team of boys who win a football match in the most peculiar way – the player who struck the winning goals was actually a girl in the garb of a boy (in the team of male members). She cited examples of countries across the world that have football teams comprising of male &female players together in one team- no difference observed. While some nations (including India) have stringent water-tight compartments to formulate teams that comprise players of the similar gender only. Football was just an example, our guest author wanted to focus attention of her readers & other people society towards the issue of gender bias on feeble grounds –the thought that females cannot be tough or boys are not supposed to cook – are just vague ideas & they need to be unearthed from the society at the earliest. Gender bias is all in the mind; it is the creation out of either ignorance towards capabilities or undue regard held for specific tasks for specific gender groups. At the concluding end, our guest had an open dais discussion with our students; who enthusiastically came up with their ideas & concepts about gender equality.
Prior to the session, School Librarian Mrs Vishakha Sonakamble introduced to our students to the well celebrated penned creation – of the author who was to be the guest of the Author Talk session. Our Principal Mrs. Madhubala Gairola guided the organisation of the event. School Librarian Mrs Vishakha Sonakamble organised the proceedings of the event. Mrs. Nirupama Kale proposed the Vote of Thanks.
Learning Outcomes: Students got to learn lot many things from the author talk. They now demonstrated more polished behaviour – that gives no room to differentiate between boys & girls for any reasons.
