The Pimpri Chinchwad Education Trust (PCET) was founded by the Late Shri. Shankarrao Bajirao Patil in 1990 with himself as chairman alongside a team of devoted trustees. The Trust was the outcome of long-standing public demand of having a technical institution within the vicinity of this industrial area so as to provide an opportunity to those students who foresee a career in the industry but could not afford this type of education due to ever-mounting fees.

Hailing from an agricultural background, Shri. Shankarrao Bajirao Patil’s interests and achievements lay in the areas of education, social welfare, politics and cooperative activities. He was one of the most renowned and respected individuals in Maharashtra and soon rose to become the minister for labour, gramin-vikas co-operation, dairy development and finance in the Maharashtra State Government, while also holding the position of Member of Parliament twice.

Owing to his inward desire and drive, he soon came to be the founder chairman of a number of educational institutes. The Trust, hence could establish the polytechnic and engineering college which achieved, within a short span, remarkable success not just with holding the rank of one of the best colleges in the city, but also as one of the most desired colleges to secure admission in.

The PCET is successfully running a polytechnic under the name, Pimpri Chinchwad Polytechnic (PCP), which, since 1990, has earned, through the years, a creditable reputation alongside a glorious record in academics, sports, cultural as well as the industrial circle.

With approval by the AICTE, the Trust started the engineering college, Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering (PCCOE) at Akurdi, Pune in 1999. The premises are well-developed and lavished with the state-of-the-art technology to impart sterling technical education. Over the years, more institutions inclusive of schools, management and computer institutes have fallen under the PCET umbrella.
