Career Counselling
Dear Students,
My name is Ms. Susmita Roy. I am the Career Guidance and Counselling In-charge of S.B. Patil Public School’s Career Cell. My credentials include a BSc (Physics, Chemistry and Math); BEd (Science and Math); a Post Graduate in Personnel Management; and a Certified Career Counsellor degree from UCLA and IC3.
In today’s world, the concept of careers is drastically changing. It is suggested that by 2030, some careers which we think are lucrative now will most likely become obsolete. New careers and new job opportunities await us at the horizon; and for these it has become imperative that one has the latest skills to take on the challenges the world offers. Thus, we need to think about our children from a scientific perspective rather than a purely emotional one.
When choosing the right career, even whilst at school, say whilst in Grade X or XII, one has to assume how lucrative will that career be five to six years hence - by time one completes their post-graduation.
Ergo, the Career Cell at S.B. Patil Public School, under the mentorship of our principal, Dr. Bindu Saini, we have, in unison, commenced working on building students in whom these future skills are embedded.
Workshops, psychometric tests, mindfulness sessions, alumni talks and career fairs are all going to be part of the events that would be organised by the Career Cell. Links to university webinars and talk shows will also be provided for further research.
We look forward to your wholesome and wholehearted support, and are always welcome to suggestions and recommendations.
Together, let us pave a path to a bright future for our students.
Your faithfully,
Ms. Susmita Roy

Building on the Bond to Pave the Way:
Attending the Alumni-led Career Guidance Session
Pune, Maharashtra | 14th July, 2023
On 14th July, 2023 S.B. Patil Public School hosted a career guidance session by our alumni for the students of Grade X.
The session was an inititiative take by Ms. Susmita Roy, the school’s career counsellor, who mentored our alumni and current students as well. Representatives from the alumni were Ms. Anushka Aloni, Mr. Sharvay Tiwari, Mr. Gaurav Bhagodia and Mr. Aman Bhoge.
Anushka, who is a BA in Psychology, talked about different career options available in psychology and the importance of it in tomorrow's world. She clearly differentiated between the passion and hobby and the need of it in one’s life.
Sharvay, who is a student of College of Engineering Pune Technological University was of the opinion that one should aim to get admission in good institution or university. Gaurav, a student of Hospitality and Hotel Administration, talked about different career path available after HHA. Aman, a student at IIT Madras said that aim should be fixed and all have to work towards it.
In summary, they all were of the opinion that to be successful in life one has to be focussed, disciplined and know about one’s skill and ability to work towards it. The students, who attentively listened and then interacted with their now graduated seniors found it to very informative.
At S.B. Patil School, we not only nurture students to be better citizens also imbibe the spirit of brotherhood amongst those who are presently in school and those who graduate. And this is why there exists a strong bond between not just our institute and faculty and our alumni, but also a spirit of mentoring between our current students and the pass-outs.
In closing, we thank our principal, Dr. Bindu Saini; vice principal, Ms. Padmavati Banda; and school career counsellor, Ms. Susmita Roy for organising such a wonderful and insightful event.
Creating Better Opportunities:
The Career Fair at S.B. Patil Public School
Pune, Maharashtra | 21st April, 2023
An Indo-global university career fair was organised by the school’s Career Cell for the students of Grade IX, X and XII on 21st April, 2023 with the prime objective to inform students about future educational and career prospectives available.
In a one-of-a-kind experience, representatives from 14 renowned educational institutes/ universities showcased their professional programmes and courses at this fair which was held in the school’s auditorium.
The interesting features of the fair were the introductory seminars by different university representatives as well as the prospects of studying abroad, new streams and avenues, etc. The representatives further went on to introduce the term, ‘liberal arts’ to the students which interested and attracted them immediately, and they thus tried to explore the avenues within this stream.
The fair saw an audience of around 500 students with the faculty too being part of the event. The school’s alumni too visited the fair and got expert guidance from well-qualified professionals with access to the latest information and technical expertise. Representatives interacted one-on-one with students thus providing them individualised guidance.
Students further went on to give extremely positive feedback regarding the event as this was something that provided them awareness especially since they are at the stage wherein they are deciding streams and courses to take.
We thank our principal, Dr. Bindu Saini; vice principal, Ms. Padmavati Banda; administrative officer, Mr. Manish Dhekale; and the Career Counsellor, Ms. Sushmita Roy for organising this insightful event.
