A Surprise Mock Fire Evacuation Drill Conducted
Pune, Maharashtra | 12th June, 2025
On 12th June, 2025, the fire alarm rang across the school premises, signalling the commencement of a surprise mock fire evacuation drill. Within moments, teachers responded with composure and efficiency, guiding students from Nursery to Grade XII to the school sports ground. Students assembled calmly and systematically, demonstrating discipline and awareness.
These unannounced drills, including both evacuation and reverse evacuation exercises, are part of the school’s proactive safety protocol, regularly initiated by the Emergency Response Team. Such preparedness measures aim to foster a culture of safety and readiness among students and staff alike.
The importance of these drills cannot be overstated — they are not merely procedural but educational in essence. They equip students with vital life skills such as quick decision-making, collective coordination, and the ability to stay composed under pressure. They also help staff to assess real-time response and refine strategies if needed.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Emergency Response Team for meticulously planning and executing this drill. Their efforts ensure that the school community remains well-prepared for any unforeseen events.
At its core, the school’s commitment is to provide not just academic excellence, but also a secure environment — one where students and educators are confident, informed, and capable of responding swiftly in times of emergency.
Listening In:
A Hands-On Journey Inside the Human Body
Pune, Maharashtra | 11th June, 2025
On 11th June, 2025 the students of Grade V were treated to an engaging and insightful workshop conducted by the school nurse, Ms Sujata Bhalerao. The session was organised as an extension of their ongoing science chapter on internal organs, aiming to bridge the gap between textbook theory and real-world understanding
With her trademark warmth and clarity, Ms Bhalerao walked the young learners through the functions of key internal organs — the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, stomach, and intestines — using simple explanations and relatable analogies. What truly brought the session to life, however, was her live demonstration using a stethoscope.
The children watched in fascination as she showed them how to use the stethoscope to listen to the rhythmic beat of the heart and the gentle sounds of breathing in the lungs. For many, it was the first time they had heard these internal sounds, transforming abstract concepts into vivid, memorable experiences
The interactive nature of the workshop not only sparked curiosity but also encouraged questions, leading to a lively discussion about how the body works, how to keep it healthy, and the incredible way in which all organs work in sync
Workshops like these play a crucial role in helping children make meaningful connections between what they learn in class and the world around them. Judging by the wide-eyed wonder on their faces, this one certainly struck the right chord — or heartbeat!

Lessons from the Land of the Rising Sun
Pune, Maharashtra | 11th June, 2025
In a remarkable gesture of cultural exchange and international collaboration, S.B. Patil Public School recently had the privilege of hosting Mr. Renya Kikuchi San, CEO of SSCIP, Japan; and Mr. David Prakash, Director of LSCL Robotics. Their visit was more than ceremonial — it was an enriching dialogue between two cultures, aimed at nurturing global perspectives among students.
The dignitaries were warmly received by principal, Dr. Bindu Saini; vice principal, Ms. Padmavati Banda; headmaster, Ms. Shubhangi Kulkarni; and administrative manager, Mr. Manish Dhekale. The traditional Indian welcome extended to the guests reflected the school’s commitment to hospitality, cultural respect, and meaningful educational engagement.
Following a brief meeting with the principal to discuss the school's vision, pedagogy, and its commitment to multilingual and multicultural education, the guests proceeded to interact with the students of Grade VIII, who are currently studying Japanese. Accompanying the session were the coordinator for Grades VI to VIII, Ms. Vandana Sangle; and Japanese language teacher, Ms. Shweta Ganvir.
As the guests entered the school foyer, they were greeted with a touching performance — a Japanese song sung by the students. The rendition, delivered with fluency and heartfelt sincerity, delighted Mr. Kikuchi San and Mr. Prakash, and set a celebratory and respectful tone for the conversation that followed.
The highlight of the session was an engaging discussion between the delegates and the students, who demonstrated impressive curiosity and awareness. They asked insightful questions about Japan’s strategies for managing natural disasters such as tsunamis and earthquakes. Mr. Kikuchi San explained how Japan’s disaster response systems, infrastructure, and education programmes play a critical role in protecting lives.
The conversation expanded into discussions on Japan’s booming technological innovations — including robotics, artificial intelligence, and urban planning — as well as the country’s political framework, economic stability, housing architecture, and daily life. Students also expressed interest in understanding how Japanese society maintains its extraordinary standards of cleanliness, civic discipline, and collective responsibility.
What emerged was not merely a Q&A session, but a vibrant, mutual learning experience. Students shared their own thoughts, drew parallels with Indian culture, and reflected on the values of sustainability, discipline, and innovation.
Students were able to connect classroom knowledge with real-world insights. They developed a deeper understanding of global issues, cross-cultural sensitivity, and the value of dialogue. It wasn't just a visit; it was a moment that transformed language learning into a bridge of understanding between nations. Finally, Mr. Kikuchi San also invited the leadership team and students to Japan, and foster student-exchange programmes.
For S.B. Patil Public School, the visit was an affirmation of its forward-looking educational vision — to prepare students not just for exams, but for the world. For the students, it was a glimpse into the future they’re preparing to inherit — one that demands understanding beyond borders and empathy across cultures.
The school remains committed to nurturing such enriching encounters, where classrooms extend far beyond walls, and learning becomes a living, breathing exchange between minds and nations.
We thank our principal, Dr. Bindu Saini; vice principal, Ms. Padmavati Banda; Ms. Headmaster, Shubhangi Kulkarni; administrative manager, Mr. Manish Dhekale; Mr. Renya Kikuchi San and Mr. David Prakash for organising this wonderful opportunity.

Faculty Participate in “Happiness Quotient” Wellness Session
Pune, Maharashtra | 2nd May, 2025
On the 2nd May, 2025, the Counselling and Wellness Department orchestrated a thoughtful and soul-soothing session for all faculty members, themed around the deeply relevant and universal concept of the “Happiness Quotient.”
Held in the school auditorium, the event was designed to be more than just informative — it was a full-bodied experience. The lights were dimmed to create a tranquil, immersive atmosphere that encouraged reflection, presence, and emotional openness from the very start.
The session opened with a clear-eyed yet compassionate exploration of the theory behind happiness — delving into what fosters it and what inhibits it, drawing from both personal and professional spheres. Participants were guided to recognise the many stressors that affect day-to-day wellbeing — so as to maintain work life balance, while also being introduced to practical strategies and small, meaningful shifts that contribute to a happier, healthier life.
What followed was an energetic and enga ging series of activities tailored to rejuvenate the mind, body, and spirit. Faculty members engaged in breathing and meditation exercises, helping them slow down and centre themselves. Basic stretching routines encouraged movement and body awareness.
In a particularly introspective segment, calming music was played while participants were asked to reflect on the emotions the melodies stirred within them, creating a bridge between sound and self-awareness.
Mental stimulation followed in the form of quizzes, puzzles, and Sudoku, offering a playful break for the analytical mind.
Then came the most effervescent part of the session — dance and movement-based activities, which sparked joy, laughter, and genuine connection. Faculty also had the opportunity to unwind through craft and painting, engaging the creative self in a safe, expressive space.
As the end approached, in a spirited activity, everyone had papers pinned to their backs whilst other faculty members wrote positive qualities about them. The Counselling Department members also later spoke on positive affirmations, and suggested books that would help lead a positive lifestyle. Every element of the session was thoughtfully curated to help faculty reconnect with their inner balance and restore their emotional energy.
This enriching event was made possible through the passionate efforts of the Counselling and Wellness Department, whose team included the counsellors, Ms. Sabitha Pramodh and Ms. Manasvi Kulkarni; the wellness coach, Ms. Payal Shah, and the special educator, Mr. Sujay Ghule. Their empathy, insight, and professional expertise created an atmosphere of trust, healing, and shared understanding.
Equally vital was the unwavering support of the school’s leadership and administration. A heartfelt thank you goes to our principal, Dr. Bindu Saini; and vice Principal, Ms. Padmavati Banda, for championing the importance of mental and emotional wellness within the school culture.
Special thanks are due to our section coordinators — Ms. Darshana Kamat, Ms. Nirupama Kale, Ms. Vandana Sangle, Ms. Archana Prabhune, and Ms. Supreya Nitin — whose presence and participation added warmth and enthusiasm to the proceedings. We also extend sincere appreciation to the administrative manager, Mr. Manish Dhekale, whose behind-the-scenes support ensured seamless organisation and execution of the session.
Later in the day, in a thoughtful extension of the day’s spirit of gratitude and connection, a special event was held to commemorate International Labour Day, dedicated to honouring the support staff of the school — the often-unsung heroes who keep the institution running smoothly every single day.
The session, compered by Ms. Varsha Kulkarni, included a range of fun-filled activities such as games and music, specially chosen to bring smiles and celebrate their invaluable contribution. Each member of the support staff was also presented with a badge as a token of appreciation, symbolising respect, recognition, and heartfelt thanks for all that they do.
Altogether, the day stood as a powerful testament to the values the school holds dear — empathy, wellbeing, unity, and gratitude. It was not just a break from routine, but a reminder that nurturing happiness is not a fleeting indulgence — it is an essential part of a thriving educational ecosystem. And on this day, that happiness was not only taught — it was truly felt.

Sharpening Minds through Competitive Based Assessment:
Hosting CBSE CoE Workshop
Pune, Maharashtra | 28th and 29th April, 2025
On 28th and 29th April 2025, S.B. Patil Public School proudly hosted a two-day CBSE Centre of Excellence (CoE) workshop on Competency-Based Assessments, aimed at equipping educators with practical tools and insights to align their teaching strategies with the evolving demands of 21st-century learning. The workshop brought together faculty from various departments for an engaging and intellectually stimulating experience.
The session was led by Ms Paramita Nandy, principal of Army Public School; and Ms Moushumi Chowdhury, principal of Jayawant Public School; and also saw over 40 faculty members visiting from nearly eight other schools across Pune. The speakers brought a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the sessions, diving deep into the foundational concepts of modern pedagogy.
Speaking on policy and planning, the speakers gave insight on National Education Policy (NEP) and the National Curriculum Framework (NCF). The workshop also clarified the often-confused concepts of curriculum and syllabus; and stressed on the learning objectives versus learning outcomes.
This distinction is vital for teachers to design instruction that is both purposeful and progressive. A substantial portion of the session was dedicated to understanding learning objectives and learning outcomes, and how the latter, when clearly defined, can be effectively used to formulate competency-based questions that challenge students to think critically and apply their knowledge.
As the sessions progressed, the focus shifted to the types of questions used in assessments. The speakers explored both Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and subjective formats, offering practical guidance on how to craft questions that are age-appropriate, skill-oriented, and aligned with Bloom’s Taxonomy. Teachers were then engaged in a series of hands-on activities designed to make the experience both interactive and application-driven. These included rating pre-set questions for quality, clarity, and relevance, thereby gaining insights into what constitutes a well-framed question.
Teachers were grouped according to their subject specialisations and tasked with creating a 35 to 40 mark question paper based on a given topic. This collaborative task allowed educators to put theory into practice, and the subsequent presentations created a platform for constructive critique, with fellow faculty members offering feedback and suggestions. This peer-review element fostered a spirit of collegiality, open dialogue, and continuous professional development.
Overall, the two-day workshop proved to be a valuable professional learning opportunity, blending theory with practical application and leaving educators better prepared to design meaningful, competency-driven assessments that truly reflect student understanding.

A Guide to Mindful Parenting for Grade VIII Parents
Pune, Maharashtra | 26th April, 2025
In a progressive step towards nurturing more mindful and emotionally attuned parent-child relationships, the Guidance and Counselling Department of S.B. Patil Public School organised an enriching session on Mindful Parenting for the parents of Grade VIII students on 26th April, 2025.
The session opened by exploring the essence of mindful parenting: the art of being fully present with one's child, listening with empathy and without judgement. Parents were encouraged to cultivate calm, conscious responses over reactive behaviour, thereby deepening the emotional bond with their children.
The counsellors elaborated on different parenting styles, highlighting the impact of authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful approaches. Emphasis was placed on the authoritative style — a balance of warmth, responsiveness, and clear boundaries — as the most effective in promoting a child's independence with guidance.
Key aspects of mindful parenting were thoroughly discussed, including:
1. Positive Communication: Active listening, consistent reinforcement, healthy dialogue, and developing routines while allowing personal space were championed as vital strategies.
2. Screen Time versus Quality Time: Parents were urged to prioritise outdoor play, family bonding over meals, and setting gentle yet consistent boundaries around digital consumption. Practical suggestions, such as the '20-20 rule' and using board games or cooking sessions for engagement, were shared
3. Food and Nutrition: The importance of introducing food positively, promoting balanced colourful meals, and understanding food psychology in relation to behaviour and mood swings were highlighted. Making mealtimes enjoyable was encouraged as a subtle but powerful parenting tool.
The session also addressed Mindful Disciplining, where the focus should be on guiding behaviour rather than criticising character. Techniques such as offering choices, modelling desired behaviours, establishing clear consequences, and favouring time-outs over punishments were recommended.
Parents were also introduced to the positive outcomes of adopting mindful parenting strategies, including stronger parent-child relationships, improved emotional regulation, reduced conflicts, enhanced cooperation, and greater self-esteem in children.
Additionally, the role of the Special Educator, Mr Sujay Ghule, was discussed, underscoring the support provided for students with special needs through assessments, Individualised Education Plans (IEPs), curriculum adaptations, and collaboration with teachers, therapists, and parents
The interactive session concluded with a lively Q&A segment, allowing parents to seek practical advice and clarifications. The overwhelming participation and feedback reflected the community's genuine commitment to fostering healthier and more mindful parenting practices
